Installing The CV11 Client

CV11 is a true Client/Server application. After you have installed the complete Server program to your Server, you are able to install a very small CV11 Client program to access your Collect! database.

There are two ways to use the CV11 Client:

  • You may install the CVll Client on the Server, and make a shortcut to this on each workstation.
  • Or, you may install the CV11 Client on each workstation.

This requires that you have already installed the CV11 Server application..

Your CV11 Client users will need access to a directory on your server that will allow for shared access to attached files and printed letters. By default, this folder exists in your CV11\bin\global folder.

CV11 Server Preparation

Before installing the CV11 Client to either your Server or your Workstations, please prepare as outlined below.

1. Have a CV11 Server running and configured on your Server.

2. Share the CV11 folder that contains your CV11 Server, with FULL CONTROL share permissions for all users who will be accessing Collect!.

tip.gif The CV11\bin folder and its subfolders must be set to FULL CONTROL at the file level. You can set more secure permissions at the file level on the rest of the folders.

3. On your Server, start Collect!, sign in as a user with User Level 99.

4. Select System from the top menu bar and then select Preferences from the drop-down choices. This will display the System Setup menu.

5. Select the DATABASE PREFERENCES button to view the Database Preferences form.

6. In the field labeled Log path, enter "\\FileServer\CV11Share\bin\" where "FileServer" is the Windows networking name of your file server and "CV11Share" is the name of the share you defined above for your CV11 folder.
